Personal Injury at Work

What is personal injury? Personal injury, in the eyes of the law, is injury that is sustained by a person because of the negligence of someone else. Automobile accidents are an example of personal injury because there is injury to the vehicle and the driver and passengers at the hands of careless drive of another vehicle. Another example of personal injury is the slip and fall accident where you fall while shopping because something was not cleaned off the floor and you slipped on it. There are also accidents that happen outside, example: if you were walking down the street and something fell from a building an you sustained a head injury.

In each of these examples you have costs and pain. In each example there are costs of repairing the automobile and medical or hospitalization costs that should not be your responsibility.

personal injury at work is not confined to autos and stores, they can also happen on the job. Whether you are a construction worker or an employee of a very modern office you are apt to become the victim of a personal injury. Construction injuries are obvious but the office is not. Before computers were part of the office scene we had electric typewriters; I received an electric shock from my electric typewriter. Impossible you say? The motor of that particular typewriter was supposed to be hermetically sealed but it was not done properly.

After some use, the motor opened and I was the lucky person that got the results. It took several officials from IBM to come and examine the typewriter and soon found the defect. I was thankful that I was not seriously hurt.

There are costs and pain involved in any personal injury and these costs and everything concerning those costs should be the responsibility of the person or people that were negligent. In order to get your costs reimbursed and your losses compensated you should hire a personal injury claim attorney. The attorney will argue your case in court and get an order to have your costs and more paid to you, or he/she may settle for a substantial amount, out of court.
